Due to the nature of our law practice, it is not often that we at Butler Viadro get to interact with grade school kids. However, we recently had the opportunity to do so. This summer we hosted students from Aim High Urban Promise Academy for a career day. Aim High is a summer program that serves students from underperforming schools who live in low-income households and have limited access to educational opportunities.

The kids received a tour of the office to get a sense of different roles and work stations at a law firm. In addition, the firm’s attorneys and support staff gave presentations regarding their respective and varied paths to arriving in those roles (e.g., role models, education, work experience, etc.) The students also engaged in a mock trial which gave them a sense of some basic issues and concepts which arise in the area of personal injury law.

Throughout the day, Aim High students were engaged and inquisitive. For all of the students, it was their first experience with any professional environment and they said they learned a lot over the two hours spent with Butler Viadro attorneys and staff. It was a pleasure to be a part of the learning experience of Aim High UPA students, and we hope that sharing our experiences inspired some them to pursue their educational/professional careers.
