Driver Fatigue Cited As A Leading Factor In California Tour Bus Accident

Once again, driver fatigue is being cited as a leading factor in a fatal commercial tour accident.  The recent bus crash near Shasta Lake killed one person, and at least 30 other were taken to nearby hospitals.  The tour bus was en route to Washington State from Los Angeles, when the driver veered off Interstate 5 near Shasta Lake and crashed onto its roof.  Hours earlier, the bus driver crashed into a Denny's Restaurant, although no injuries were suffered at this time.

How agricultural safety numbers may impact California workers

In 2012, 374 farmers were killed while on the job, which translates to a fatality rate of 20.2 per 100,000 workers. Many of the deaths were caused by tractors turning over. To prevent such deaths, it is recommended that all tractors be fitted with a Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS). As of 2012, 59 percent of all tractors had this system, but that number could increase to 80 percent if all tractors made since the 1960s were fitted with such a system.

The 5 most common workplace injuries

California workers should know that career-ending injuries may happen in nearly any line of work. Accidents in the workplace may occur at even the most safety-conscious businesses, authorities say. The most common workplace accidents can cause back injuries, spine damage and debilitating pain in the joints. Although many on-the-job injuries are minor, some workers become financially crippled by their work-related injuries, suffering lost wages, costly hospital bills and the cost of rehabilitation and recovery.
