Fatal Industrial Accident Kills One

San Francisco news reports that a construction worker has died following a fatal industrial accident.  According to KRON television, the man was working on a boom truck just south of Interstate Highway 280 in San Jose for ABM Electrical & Lighting, a facility management company. Industrial work sites may pose significant risks for workers. According to the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), 4585 workers were killed on the job in 2013 (the most recently reported statistics) which averages to 88 deaths a week or more than 12 every day.

High accident and injury rates in the recycling industry

Workers in the recycling industry in California and around the country are twice as likely as other American workers to be injured on the job. While some of these injuries may require only minor treatment, many others are far more serious in nature. A report released on June 23 reveals that 17 recycling workers were killed in workplace accidents between 2011 and 2013, and researchers from the University of Illinois were joined by environmental and safety experts to see what could be done to reduce this number.
