Two Workers Suffer Serious Personal Injuries at Hollywood Construction Site

California news reports that a wall at a construction site on North Las Palmas Avenue in Hollywood has toppled over, leaving two workers with serious personal injuries. Paramedics arrived at the scene shortly thereafter, and the men were taken by ambulance for treatment. According to reports, the wall weighed approximately 1000 pounds and was made of wood. Co-workers assisted firefighters in lifting the wall off the men. This incident remains under investigation.

Grateful Elevator Constructor Client Creates Lamp Out of Hydraulic Control Pump

20160318_125627_resized.jpgAt Butler Viadro, we take to heart the notion of being useful in the lives of our clients. In a recent case, we were able to ensure that an elevator constructor (a member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors, Local 8) who had worked in the trade for 35 years was compensated for the loss of his career after being injured as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Our client was grateful for the work we did on his behalf. He decided to make his gratitude tangible and built this beautiful lamp from an old discarded hydraulic control valve made of brass. We think it is a wonderful work of art and have placed it in a place of honor in our front conference room where we take many of our depositions. It will inspire us to continue the fight.

Three Construction Site Fatalities Underscore Workplace Dangers

In the last week, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) reported 3 three fatal construction accidents. One accident involved a crane operator who was killed while working at a highway construction site. In a separate incident, two men lost their lives when a strap holding a 10,000-pound generator attached to a crane broke, and dropped the generator on the workers below. In a third, a construction worker was seriously injured when he was thrown from the bulldozer he was operating and hit by the machine.
